Waxing vs Ceramic Coating: Which Is Best for Your Vehicle?

When you are looking into how to best protect the appearance of your vehicle you will generally find two options being recommended, ceramic coatings or wax. Both methods of protecting your car have their own advantages and disadvantages to consider. That is why in today’s blog we will be comparing wax and ceramic coatings so you can determine which is best for your vehicle.
Ceramic Coatings
Ceramic Coatings are made up of a liquid polymer that chemically bonds with the paint on your car to create a semi-permanent coating to protect your vehicle. Ceramic coatings give a protective shine that makes your car look like new and provides a chemically resistant coating that protects against things like bird droppings and acidic rain. Ceramic Coatings are extremely UV resistant and can help preserve the color and integrity of your vehicle’s paint for a long period of time. They are also easy to clean as the coating repels dirt, grime and water so it usually comes clean with a quick rinse. This coating will also help maintain the value of your vehicle by keeping its exterior in excellent condition. On the downside Ceramic Coatings are often more expensive than wax and has a more complex and demanding application process which may be best left to the professionals.
Wax
Wax is the classic way to protect your vehicle and keep it looking shiny and new. Wax comes in two main varieties, Carnauba and Artificial. Carnauba wax is a natural product derived from the Brazilian palm tree while synthetic is a modern, lab developed alternative. The main advantage that wax has as a car coating is that it is affordable, easy to apply and looks great. Waxing your vehicle is also an effective way to protect it from UV rays, water and some contaminants. The main disadvantage it has when compared to a ceramic coating is that it simply isn’t as robust, providing less protection that isn’t as long lasting as a ceramic coating. It simply isn’t as effective at preventing scratches or protecting against bird droppings or other chemicals your vehicle might come in contact with.
We hope we have been able to demonstrate to you the main advantages and disadvantages of both Ceramic Coatings and Wax, allowing you to make the best decision for your vehicle.
